Tambo Tres Chimbadas is a small but comfortable jungle house built according to traditional native architecture and from only naturally fallen trees (drift wood). It is situated alongside a quebrada, on the edge of an oxbow lake (Tres Chimbadas) and is surrounded by 1,500 ha. (3,000 acres) of untouched virgin rainforest. The area consists of many different types of rainforest; high ground; terra firme, bamboo, floodplain and palm swamp, giving rise to an immense variety of flora and fauna.

Explorers' Inn Ecolodge consists of a complex of seven detached palm-thatched bungalows sited around a central building which houses the reception, bar and dining room. Each of the twin bed rooms has an en suite bathroom and is fully screened against insects. The design, though modern and comfortable, retains a typical jungle style. In keeping with the natural setting and atmosphere, all lighting is provided by candle light, with the exception of the dining area which is equipped with solar powered electric illumination. An excellent network of well-marked trails, totaling 37 km., depart from the lodge in several directions linking it with the local natural attractions including several ox-bow lakes teaming with bird and animal life. More than 600 species of birds and 1,230 species of butterflies have been found in it.

Buildings in harmony with the forest are constructed from local materials which allow them to blend well into the exotic setting. "Style" can be described as rustic comprising wooden, palm thatched, screened cabins without electricity. Candles and lamps are used after dark making for a relaxing natural ambiance. Solar energy is being introduced but only exists for the administration building lighting, maintenance of batteries for radio communications, and in the kitchen area for food preparation. A small generator is used minimally (to reduce noise, pollution and similar).
