Southern Peru
A journey to Southern Peru visiting the Coastal Reserve of Paracas and the famous Ballestas Islands; the enigmatic Nazca Lines, ancient lines and figures drawn with spectacular perfection: Arequipa, the most beautiful city in Peru. Also known as the white city, Arequipa is a listed as a Cultural World Heritage Site by UNESCO; and finally, Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake covering an area of 8000 square kilometers. This huge lake straddles the borders of Bolivia and Peru and is home to many islands, each of them with their own characteristics and unique history. The floating islands of the Uros, whose inhabitants descend from one of the oldest known tribes in the Americas, feature typical native huts made from totora reeds. The inhabitants of Taquile Island, are linked to the Aymara culture of nearby Bolivia and welcome people to their homes.

ITINERARY
Day 1: Lima

Arrival in Lima, reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Pisco

After breakfast, transfer to the bus terminal for the luxury bus to Pisco, some three hours south of Lima. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 3: Ballestas Islands

Transfer to Paracas for the boat to the Paracas National Reserve and the Ballestas islands. Commonly referred to as the "little Galapagos", here you will see an amazing concentration of sea birds and sea lions in their natural habitat. Visit to Paracas, the only coastal National Reserve in Peru. Lunch. In the evening, luxury bus to Nazca. Arrival and transfer to your hotel.

Day 4: Nazca Lines

Flight over the Nazca Lines; gigantic drawings and geometrical figures, representing animals, such as a spider, a monkey and several birds, and once believed to be an enormous astronomical calendar. Visit to the Cantelloc aqueducts and the chance to relax by the pool before taking the luxury bus to Arequipa. Arrival late night and transfer to your hotel.

Day 5: Arequipa

Free morning. Afternoon city tour of the beautiful city of Arequipa, visiting the Chilina valley and the old San Lazaro district. A general view of the city is appreciated from the Yanahuara Belvedere, followed by a visit to the Plaza de Armas and its Cathedral, the cloisters of La Compañia Church, and the Church and Square of San Francisco. The extraordinary Santa Catalina convent which is built from volcanic lava and dates from the 16th century is also visited along with the best preserved mummy in South America, Juanita, stored at the university. Return to your hotel.

Day 6: Colca Canyon

Departure from Arequipa, passing near the thermal baths of Yura and climbing up towards the National Reserve of Pampa de Cañahuas which is situated at 3,800m. Here groups of alpacas, vicuñas and sometimes guanacos can be seen. After driving several hours, the descent into the Colca Valley starts until we arrive at Chivay, the most important town of the valley. Accommodation at the fabulous Colca Lodge, set in the Colca Valley itself. With its very own hot springs, relax in the fabulous surroundings of the Canyon.

Day 7: Arequipa

After breakfast, early departure to reach the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, a few kilometers before Cabanaconde, where the Colca Canyon starts. Here you will see a fine view of the flight of the condors as well as of the depth of the mighty canyon. In the afternoon, return to Arequipa and transfer to your hotel.

Day 8: Puno

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Juliaca. Arrival and transfer to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 9: Lake Titicaca

After breakfast, a tour by boat to the island's of Uros and Taquile on Lake Titicaca. A tour of the reed islands of Uros before continuing to Taquile, where members of this self-supporting island will welcome you and offer a glimpse into their ancient traditions and customs. Lunch on the island and an opportunity for some spectacular views over the haunting beauty of Lake Titicaca. Night at one of the Islander's homes. Return to Puno and your hotel.

Day 10: Lake Titicaca

Early wake up to enjoy a spectacular sunrise over Lake Titicaca before heading back to Puno by boat. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 11: Sillustani

After breakfast, journey to Juliaca where on the way there will be and an excursion to the Silluastani towers. These ancient funereal towers dating back to pre-inca times are examples of the most ancient cultures found on the altiplano. Transfer to Juliaca airport for the return flight back to Lima. After the two and a half hour flight, reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 12: Lima

Leisurely day with plenty of opportunity for shopping before your transfer to the airport and your return flight home.
