The 5 best tours to Peru for 2024

With so many tours to choose from, you may be wondering which tour to take when first embarking on a trip to Peru. Well, here we have selected 5 tours to Peru for 2024. There are many more to choose from but these 5 should give you an idea of what we can offer. We have covered many interests and budgets but these we consider amongst our best signature tours for 2024 that no other company offers.

Firstly, our luxury yoga and spiritual escape tour, a private tour of Peru which visits the Sacred Valley and includes several shamanic experiences including a plant ceremony and an offering to the mother earth. You will then enjoy several days at a Yoga retreat where the organic gardens provide guests with the opportunity to relax, restore and receive the powerful energy from the Andes. The stay will include yoga sessions and meditation ceremonies. Half way through the program, you will travel on-board the luxury Hiram Bingham train to the ancient lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. Your private Shaman will help explain the mystical aspects of the citadel in addition to the historical importance of the site.

Upon returning to Cusco, the unique program continues with a yoga hike through the major archaeological sites on the outskirts of the city. Enjoying a yoga asana class next to a temple we will also include an acro-flying yoga class and mantra chanting session.

On the penultimate day, we will visit Chinchero and the authentic market before visiting the weaving workshop run by the Centro de Textiles under the leading influence of Nilda Callanaupa, a Quechua weaver and scholar. With a chance to participate in the weaving process, this unique tour comes to an end when you visit a ceramist family and his workshop. All hotels offered are deluxe 5 star hotels in addition to a few days at a Yoga retreat and include the luxury Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu.

Second on our list of signature tours is our short, 7 day Family Highlights tour to Peru which caters for all families with children aged 6 or over. As the need for shorter and more affordable educational trips increase, we are able to offer a wonderful combination tour of the Inca highlights of Peru with a few days in the Amazon jungle. By arranging shorter trips, children can enjoy the visits more, allowing for interesting and focused trips whilst providing the educational balance that foreign vacations bring.

On this tour, you will visit Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire followed by a full day trip to Machu Picchu by train. You will be able to sample local cuisine and learn about the local culture in a family-friendly way. The last half of the trip will include a four day tour to the Southern Amazon rainforest where you will transfer to the Tambopata river port in Puerto Maldonado.

You will learn about the principal activities of the jungle along with enjoying wildlife-spotting tours, canoeing, and walking through the many trails of the forest. With 3 nights at a comfortable jungle lodge, your emersion in the local community is assured. We offer affordable, budget options along with more expensive exclusive lodges.

Peru has so much more to offer than just Machu Picchu alone. When anyone mentions Peru, the first thing that comes to mind for most people is the stunning city in the clouds, the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. But Peru has much more on show. And our third signature tour, the Cultures of Peru showcases this in an impressive way. It’s a long trip, over two weeks, but if you have the time, and interest in ancient cultures, then this is the way to discover the true richness of Peru.

We start off in the capital Lima, home to many impressive museums and an excellent start to our voyage of discovery. Visits include the National Museum of Archaeology, the Gold Museum or the Larco Herrera Museum allowing for an appreciation of pre Inca cultures. A visit to nearby Pachacamac affords us the opportunity to see an ancient desert site that predates Machu Picchu.

We then head north to the oldest civilisation in the Americas, Caral which dates back to over 3000BC. Here settlements developed almost simultaneously with the civilisations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and China. The site is still under further study and the local museum helps explain the enormity and importance of the valley.

Our tour then continues further north to Trujillo, the second largest city in Peru after Lima.

We will visit the city along with Chan Chan, the pre-Inca adobe city on the outskirts of Trujillo. It was the foremost city of the Chimu Empire built of mud and adobe brick.

We then visit the El Brujo Complex which includes the Señora de Cao mummy, the first female ruler found on the northern coast. Very well-preserved, you can still see her skin covered with tattoos. Señora de Cao was buried with numerous high status objects and the site is one of the most important archaeological sites on the north coast of Peru; featuring architectural structures that date from the pre-ceramic era up to colonial times.

Additional sites included in this tour are the Brunning museum, Sipan and Sican and the Tucume complex, where over 26 pyramids are located.

The trip turns east into the heart of the Andean mountains and to Huaraz, the trekking capital of Peru. Here we shall visit the pre-inca Wilcahuain complex which was built by the pre-Inca Wari culture around 1000 AD and Chavin de Huantar, site of the oldest pan-andean civilisation dating back to 2000BC. Here, the site has many galleries and subterranean tunnels and houses many carved stone figures of anthropomorphic semblances reminiscent of the Maya culture.

After Huaraz, the tour then continues south onto Cusco and Machu Picchu before heading further south to Lake Titicaca and the islands of Amantani and Taquile. The last visit will be to the pre-inca Sillustani funeral towers before flying home. This comprehensive cultural tour of Peru covers many seldom visited areas but allows for a true appreciation of several archaeological sites which are often dubbed the Egypt of the Americas.

Our next recommended tour is a short 10 day adventure trip called the Honeymoon Peru adventure and leisure tour although it doesn’t necessarily have to be a honeymoon trip as it would be suitable for any couple, family or group as long as the participants are over 12 years of age.

The tour starts with a visit to Cusco and the Sacred Valley to allow for ample acclimatisation before starting the 4 day Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. This 4 day trek involves 3 nights camping at high altitude with visits to several archaeological sites along the way. You will trek up 2 mountain passes and through 3 ecological sites before arriving to Machu Picchu. The highest point along the way is at 4200m at Warmiwanusq. You will then enter Machu Picchu early in the morning for a tour before returning by train to Cusco in the evening.

The following day the program continues with a flight to Lima and up to the coastal airport at Talara. From here a short drive takes you to the fantastic beaches of Mancora, with their virtually deserted sandy beaches and fabulous surf. The program allows for a few days at the beach before returning to Lima. This tour is a great adventure, cultural and leisure trip which can be lengthened with more time on the beach or additional sites in Cusco.

Our final recommended tour for 2024 is a combination tour to Peru and Galapagos. There are several options to choose from including affordable options with land based tour of the Galapagos Islands or less expensive yachts.  On the other scale, we also arrange luxury vessels and luxury hotels. If you have up to 2 weeks to spend on a vacation to South America, then we wholeheartedly recommend combining Peru with the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. We include all flights inside of Latin America and combine the highlights of Peru, Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu with a 4 or 5 day cruise of the Galapagos. The cruises are all inclusive with your fellow travellers but allow for a visit to many islands within the archipelago.  Both destinations are good all year round so this option is very flexible. Do note that for Christmas and New Year the yachts get booked up far in advance so we recommend early booking. If you have a large family or a group of friends, why not consider chartering a yacht just for your group?  Contact us at info@amazingperu.com for more information or call us on toll free 1800 704 2915 and ask to speak with one of our specialist advisors.
