Climbing the Andes Expedition 2008 |
| |
The mountain region we will visit, the Cordillera Blanca (white mountains), are rich of snowed and iced peaks. Alpamayo (5947m) has been voted the most beautiful mountain in the world by the UNESCO even though it is not very high and has a very well accessible normal route. It is a perfect climbing goal and if time allows we will although scale the 6000m peak Quitarraju from the same high camp. After resting we will head out to climb Huascaran, with 6868m the highest peak of Peru, actually of the whole Northern Andes. These tours require a good basic knowledge of glacier technics and offer a perfect training for the higher mountains of the Himalyans as Cho Oyu and Mt.Everest.
Optional we offer you to start this tour by adding a one week cultural trekking tour to Cuzco and Machu Pichu, which leading up to 4200m this will pre-acclimate you for the mountain climbing. Although hikers can join the first part of this trip continuing with the famous Santa-Cruz trek through the fascinating landscape of the Cordilleras.
