ITINERARY
Day 1. LIMA

Arrival to Lima, reception at the airport and transfer to your hotel. We recommend the Tambo 2.

Day 2. LIMA (Breakfast)

After breakfast pick up for your as group visit of colonial and modern Lima, starting in the centre of this vibrant, metropolis. The tour will include a visit of the cathedral, dating from 1654 which still houses the remains of the conquistador Pizarro in the foyer; the Main Square, with the original bronze fountain built in 1650, the Government Palace where the President has his official residence and the San Francisco Convent, with its famous catacombs. Lima, known as the city of the kings, was founded in 1535 by Pizarro and after several devastating earthquakes was rebuilt in 1991; the same year that UNESCO declared Lima a world heritage site. Return to your hotel.

Day 3. LIMA - CUZCO (Breakfast)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Cuzco. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. We recommend the Imperial. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the Inca sites on the outskirts of Cuzco including the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking Cuzco, Qenko, Tambomachay and Puka Pukara. Return to Cuzco before visiting the Cathedral and Qoricancha temple. Return to your hotel.

Day 4. CUZCO - MACHU PICCHU - CUZCO (Breakfast)

Today you will have an early start and enjoy breakfast before your train to Aguas Calientes. The train will depart at 06.30am for the 3 ½ hour journey. Arrive to Aguas Calientes train station, gateway to the lost city of the Incas. The short ride up to Machu Picchu will meander through breathtaking mountain scenery up to the ancient Inca citadel. Shortly after, a guided tour of Machu Picchu, the most spectacular ancient city in the world. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, and comprising stone blocks fitted with masterful precision, Machu Picchu harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. This fabulous city has houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, all connected by narrow roads and steps, and is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side. Return train back to Cuzco.

Day 5. CUZCO - PUERTO MALDONADO - POSADAS AMAZONAS (All meals)

After early breakfast, we bid farewell to Cuzco and take a short drive in a private car to the airport for the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Arrival to Puerto Maldonado. Reception and transfer to the Tambopata river port in Puerto Maldonado. Puerto Maldonado is situated at the confluence of the Madre de Dios and Tambopata Rivers. Its principal activities are gold mining, Brazil nut collecting, timber extraction, agriculture and ecotourism. After a brief survey of the town you will depart on a 1 hour ride via Infierno road, followed by a 30 minute boat journey by motorized canoe to your lodge. Depending upon your arrival time, you will have a boxed lunch aboard the boats or have lunch upon arrival at the lodge. During your voyage you may see bird such as: Black Skimmer, Pied Lapwing, Capped Heron, Jabiru Stork, Roadside Hawk, and several species of kingfishers. After arrival, you will unpack and unwind. A short orientation and a complete briefing on the lodge before your afternoon activity, a short trek into the Amazon Rainforest. Return for dinner.

Day 6. RAINFOREST (All meals)

Early wake at dawn for a visit to an oxbow lake. After an early breakfast, departure fifteen minutes from the lodge by boat followed by a 30 minute walk to the lake shore. From here you will take a long, easy canoe ride around the lake looking for giant river otters, turtles, hoatzin, and wading birds. The giant river otters that are seen here belong to a resident family of nine. Return to the lodge for lunch before embarking on your afternoon outing inot the rainforest. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Optional night walk to look for amphibians and insects

Day 7. RAINFOREST - CUZCO (Breakfast)

After an early breakfast departure by boat and bus back to the city of Puerto Maldonado, directly to the airport, for your return flight to Cuzco and transfer to your hotel.

Day 8. RAINBOW MOUNTAIN TREK (Breakfast & lunch)

Today is a full day and quite challenging. We will pick you up early from your hotel and set out on a drive through the South Valley. The drive to the trailhead at Quesiuno (4,326 m / 14,189 ft) is 3 hours long. Once we reach the Inkintuyoc bridge, we will have breakfast. We then start off on our hike, following a lovely stream with horses as backup transport. You will be immediately surprised by literally herds of alpacas and llamas. We will have consistent views of the Ausangate Mountain. We will hike through villages and interact with the local residents. We will stop for a box lunch along the trail. Back on the trail, we encounter more of the traditional elements of this trek. This includes potato fields and unique fauna. We have the prospect of seeing chinchillas and vicunas. Vicunas are the only non-domesticated animal of the llama family in Peru. Many red mountains are also a highlight of this portion of the hike. After a total hike of approximately 5 hours, we finally reach our destination, what we came to see the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,466 ft). After getting over its beauty, you will have time to explore the area. You will have time to take pictures and enjoy the setting. We will spend approximately 30 minutes at the top. We then hike downhill the way we came. The hike will take 4 to 5 hours. A private van will be waiting for you when we return. We will embark on the 3 hour drive back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel. Approximate arrival time is between 8 and 9 PM.

Day 9. CUZCO - PUNO (Breakfast & lunch only)

After early breakfast, transfer to the bus terminal for the tourist bus to Puno. This trip will begin by ascending gradually out of the Cuzco Valley until arriving at the town of Andahuaylillas where you will visit the "Sistine Chapel of the Andes". This colonial era Chapel features mainly interesting canvasses which illustrate the use of Andean Symbology being incorporated into traditional Catholic images. From here you will travel further to Raqchi which is the tallest set of Incan Ruins. The road from here climbs slightly to La Raya which is the highest point at 4200 m. There will be a brief stop here and there are views across to the snow-capped mountain peak. From here the road gradually descends to Pukara where you will visit the museum and ruins of this pre-incan civilisation. From this visit you will continue to Puno situated on the edge of Lake Titicaca. Lunch will be buffet at a restaurant during the trip. Lying on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake. Transfer to your hotel, the Casona.

Day 10. PUNO - COPACABANA - LA PAZ (Breakfast)

After breakfast, transfer to terminal for the bus to Copacabana Bolivia. Passing through the frontier, the bus will stop at before arriving to La Paz and transfer to your hotel, EL Rey. Please note the bus here is in shared services with other passengers.

Day 11. LA PAZ (Breakfast)

After breakfast, city tour of La Paz, with a unique topography containing few flat areas and protected by its eternal guardian, the snow peak of Ilimani (6402m). Housing the seat of government, La Paz is a city of contrast, between both ancient and modern. A visit will also be made to the Valley of the Moon. The city centre sites include the Plaza Murillo (with its presidential palace, national congress and metropolitan cathedral), museums, and many interesting markets. A visit to the valley of the moon in the afternoon.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
