Luxury Peru & Bolivia Tour

Lima - Cuzco - Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu
15 days / 14 nights.
Luxury Peru & Bolivia Tour
ITINERARY
Day 1. LIMA

Arrival to Lima and private transfer to your hotel, the Marriott.

Day 2. LIMA - CUZCO - SACRED VALLEY (Breakfast & dinner)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital of the Incas. After the one hour flight, reception and private transfer to your hotel, the Aranwa Sacred Valley. Lunch is on your own. Relax and unwind in the beautiful valley location. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3. SACRED VALLEY (All meals)

After breakfast, private drive to the town of Chinchero where we shall visit the authentic market before visiting the weaving workshop run by the Centro de Textiles under the leading influence of Nilda Callanaupa, a Quechua weaver and scholar. Nilda was born in Chinchero and as many of the ancient weaving techniques Nilda learned from her elders were in danger of disappearing, Nilda founded the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco (CTTC).
The CTTC has supported weavers from several highland villages, who have revived these skills and traditions. Nilda's mission to explore and preserve traditional weaving techniques is a calling of great importance. In Peru, weaving is much more than an art form or a practical necessity. Andean textiles honour Pacha Mama, Mother Earth.
You will have ample opportunity of watching the weavers and participating yourself. Shortly after, a visit to a ceramist family and his workshop with an opportunity to experiment and learn about the ancient Inca ceramic techniques still thriving today. Lunch at the Huayoccari Hacienda, overlooking the Sacred Valley and which dates back to the seventeenth century. The hacienda is owned by one of the most prominent landowners in the Sacred Valley and is home to beautiful gardens producing native ingredients that are used in the restaurant's kitchen. These include corn, quinoa, fruit and aromatic herbs. Enjoy a set meal in this marvellous country residence before continuing your trip to the village of Pisac and its famous market, founded during colonial times, and set at the foot of a hill crowned by the remains of an ancient Inca city. Return to your hotel for dinner and accommodation.

Day 4. SACRED VALLEY (Breakfast and lunch)

After breakfast, a visit to the Inca site of Moray. This is a fascinating, unique ruin; a fabulous amphitheater of terracing that was used as an agricultural experimental site by the Incas by taking advantage of the microclimates produced by the varying altitude to breed new varieties of their crops. From here we start our trek downhill to the village of Maras and the salt pans of Maras. The salt pans are an unforgettable site where the people from Maras have diverted a salt-laden spring coming out of the hillside, evaporating the water to collect salt, as their ancestors have done for centuries. We will walk among the salt pans, witnessing a scene largely unchanged from Inca times. From the salt pans we continue our trek to the bottom of the valley before rejoining our car for the private transfer to your restaurant for lunch, the Hawa. Return in the afternoon to your hotel for a free evening.

Day 5. SACRED VALLEY - MACHU PICCHU (Breakfast & dinner)

After breakfast, with just a small night bag (your main luggage will be transferred to your hotel in Cuzco), board the Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes. Transfer to your hotel, the Sumaq. Board the short ride up to Machu Picchu which will meander through breathtaking mountain scenery up to the ancient Inca citadel. Enjoy a private guided tour of Machu Picchu, the most spectacular ancient city in the world. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, and comprising stone blocks fitted with masterful precision, Machu Picchu harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories as to the origins behind Machu Picchu but three of the most popular ideas include a temple to the sun, a fortress against the jungle inhabitants or a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city has houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, all connected by narrow roads and steps, and is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture. Dinner and accommodation at your hotel.

Day 6. MACHU PICCHU - CUZCO (Breakfast)

After breakfast, return to Machu Picchu for a sunrise tour. Spend free time before returning to Cusco in the afternoon. Transfer to your hotel, the Aranwa Hotel.

Day 7. CUZCO (Breakfast & dinner)

After breakfast, enjoy a private tour of Cuzco including the Qoricancha temple or temple of the Sun, the Cathedral and the Main Square. Later, venture out of the city to visit the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking Cuzco city, Qenko, Tambomachay and Puka Pukara. Return to the hotel in the evening. Dinner at the Map Café Gourmet restaurant.

Day 8. CUZCO - AREQUIPA (Breakfast)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Arequipa. Upon your arrival in Arequipa, transfer you to your accommodation, the Casa Andina Private Collection. Enjoy a guided, half day Arequipa city tour: Santa Catalina Convent, Main Square, Carmen Alto Balcony, Yanahuara and Juanita mummy at Santuarios Andinos Museum.
We will visit Santa Catalina convent, an architectural jewel located in the center of the city of Arequipa. Founded in the 16th century as a cloister, in its early days the convent was home to a small group of clergies who came from the local elite. Then, continue towards the Plaza de Armas from where we will appreciate the Church of the Society of Jesus and its Sistine Chapel and the Cathedral. Afterward, we will go to the viewpoint of Carmen Alto, to appreciate Arequipa Valley with its three tutelary volcanoes: Chachani, Misti and Pichu-Picchu and the Yanahuara neighborhood. Finally, we will visit the Santuarios Andinos Museum, which specializes in archaeological exhibits. One of the most remarkable exhibits displays the mummified body of the Lady of Ampato, also known as Mummy Juanita, who was found inside the Ampato volcano, where she had rested for more than 500 years. The discovery of Juanita and other mummies in the nearby area confirms the theory of human sacrifices.

Day 9. AREQUIPA - PUNO (Breakfast & lunch)

After breakfast, tourist bus (shared with other passengers) transfer to Puno. Arrival, reception and transfer to your hotel, the GHL Lake Titicaca Hotel.

Day 10. LAKE TITICACA (Breakfast)

After breakfast, a visit to the islands of Uros, a group of reed islands made from tortora reeds . With a small community dating back to a pre-Inca culture, the people will demonstrate their ancient way of life and customs. The boat ride will continue onto Taquile Island (not recommended for people with walking difficulties as the trip includes a 3 hour walk at altitude). The people of Taquile are related to the Aymara people of Bolivia and you will be able to interact with the local community, buy from their small shops and perhaps learn about their weaving skills. Return by boat to Puno in the afternoon and to your hotel.

Day 11. PUNO - COPACABANA - LA PAZ (Breakfast)

After breakfast, transfer to terminal for the bus to Copacabana Bolivia. Passing through the frontier, the bus will stop at before arriving to La Paz and transfer to your hotel, the Casa Grande. Please note the bus here is in shared services with other passengers.

Day 12. LA PAZ - UYUNI - INCAHUASI (All meals)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Uyuni before start of the fabulous tour aboard our 4x4 vehicles. Short drive to the train cemetery just out of town. Next, drive to the village of Colchani (30 mins) where you will learn about salt mining and processing as well as stroll through its colourful market. Here we will enter the Salar de Uyuni and stop by the famous multinational flag stand. Enjoy a delightful lunch in the middle of the world's largest salt lake and make your way to Incahuasi Island to hike to the top of this rocky outcrop full of giant cacti from where the 360-degree views of the salt flats are unmatched. After a full day of salt flats exploration, arrive at your accommodation in a small village on the rim of the salt flats. Options include Hotel Palacio de sal, Luna Salada or Cristal Samana.

Day 13. INCAHUASI - SILOLI DESERT (All meals)

Leaving the salt flats behind today, we are bound south. On the way, make a stop and walk at Ollagüe Volcano viewpoint (semi active volcano on the Chile-Bolivia border), walk along Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota and Honda lagoons to photograph wild flamingos up close and traverse Siloli Desert across the extensive barren landscape. Accommodation at the Tayka del Desierto Hotel or Los Flamencos Hotel.

Day 14. SILOLI DESERT - LAGUNA COLORADO - LAGUNA VERDE - UYUNI (Breakfast and lunch)

This expedition of a lifetime comes to a|n end today with a very early start that brings us to Sol de Mañana, (Rising Sun) - an otherworldly, steaming geyser field high up in a massive crater. Follow up with a pleasant soak in the natural hot springs of Polques before visiting the enigmatic Laguna Colorada, the Arbol de Piedra * (stone tree) and reaching the surreal Laguna Verde (green lagoon) at the foot of Volcán Licancabur ** - Bolivia's southwesternmost point. Leaving Laguna Verde behind, we set off on our scenic drive back to Uyuni not before we make a few stops for some fresh air and to enjoy more startling views of the region. Arrive in the town of Uyuni late afternoon. Overnight accommodation. We recommend the Tonito hotel, simple but clean.

Day 15. UYUNI - LA PAZ (Breakfast)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to La Paz and connect with your onward flight home.

End of our services.
