Huayhuash trek
After an early morning breakfast, private transfer to the small isolated town of Chiquian and from there onto Llamac. From here the first section of the Huayhuash trek begins climbing up to Pocpa and to your first campsite at Matacancha.
Huayhuash trek

ITINERARY
Day 1: Huaraz - Matacancha

After an early morning breakfast, private transfer to the small isolated town of Chiquian and from there onto Llamac. From here the first section of the Huayhuash trek begins climbing up to Pocpa and to your first campsite at Matacancha. Matacancha is located at 4100m. From here you can appreciate Ninashanca 5607m, and Rondoy 5870m. Overnight camping.

Day 2:  Matacancha - Cacanan Punta pass - Mitucocha Lake - Llanama Pass - Carhuacocha Lake

After breakfast you start the ascending trek by the Cordillera's east side. After a steep descent, you will cross a vast plain before reaching the Mitococha Lake. In the background, you have the huge amphitheatre made of the northern sides of Jirishjanca and the Rondoy mountains. Camping in Carhuacocha. Opportunity to do some fishing.

Day 3: Carhuacocha - Huayhuash

All day ascending trek to Huayhuash. Campsite in Huayhuash (4350m).

Day 4: Huayhuash - Huayhuash Pass - Viconga

Today is a long hiking day for about 8 hours. You will trek by a wide pass surrounded by many beautiful lakes. An easy ascent to the Huayhuash pass at 4750m places you on the eastern slope of the Cordillera, on the exact division point between the Pacific and Atlantic basins. An easy descent to the Lake Viconga follows. Campsite in Viconga.

Day 5:  Viconga - Cuyoc Pass - Guanacpatay

Today you will turn back to the West side of the Cordillera. The Cuyoc pass is near and at 5000m will be one of the highest points of the trek. The pass is between the Cuyoc and Rinri Jirca mountains. Descent in the Guanacpatay valley and camp at around 4450 m.

Day 6:  Guanacpatay - Huallapa - Huatia

Descent begins by San Antonio, and finally onto Huallapa. To reach Huatia an ascent is required to reach your next campsite.

Day 7:  Huatia - Sarapo Pass - Segya Valley - Tapush - Angocancha

Another high pass, the Segya at 5150m to cross before reaching a position in the centre of a crown made of glaciers with breathtaking views. Camp in Angocancha.

Day 8:  Angocancha -Diablo Mudo (5550m) - Jahuacocha

Today you have the option of climbing Diablo Mudo. After the ascent, you will continue the trek to Jahuacocha. Camping in Jahuacocha.

Day 9:  Jahuacocha - Llamac - Chiquian - Huaraz

Final section of hiking until Llamac, from where you will have private transportation to Chiquian and from there back to Huaraz.
