Peru, Brazil & Argentina Highlights Tour

ITINERARY
Day 1. Lima

Arrival in Lima, reception and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2. Lima - Cuzco (B)

After breakfast, a city tour of Lima including a visit to the colonial centre including the Main Square, the Cathedral and the San Francisco Church. Transfer to the airport for the flight to Cuzco.
Reception and transfer to your hotel. Free day at leisure to relax and acclimatise to the high altitude.

Day 3. Cuzco (B)

Afternoon guided visit of the four ruins nearby; the Sacsayhuaman Fortress overlooking the city of Cuzco, a pre Inca architectural masterpiece; Kenko, a rock sanctuary whose main attraction is the monolithic altar representing a puma, the red Fortress of Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay, a beautiful fountain fed by a spring forming a series of basins continue to the city of Cuzco; the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun. Return to your hotel.

Day 4. Sacred Valley (B & L)

Full-day excursion to the Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the village of Pisac, founded during Colonial times. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays the Indians barter their products, and artisans from all over the area sell their woven alpaca wool blankets and ponchos, engraved gourds, antique reproductions and jewellery. On Sundays, it is also the meeting place for the local Mayors of the region, who come dressed in their traditional costumes, to attend morning mass. After a buffet lunch, a visit to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town which is still inhabited. Explore the ruins above Ollantaytambo before returning to Cuzco via the traditional market town of Chinchero. Return to your hotel.

Day 5. Machu Picchu (B & D)

An early transfer to the railway station in Poroy for the 6.30 am train to Aguas Calientes. Arrival to Aguas Calientes and transfer to the bus terminal for the short ride (25 minutes) up to Machu Picchu. You will arrive in time for a guided group visit of the most spectacular ancient city in the world. This fabulous city contains houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square; and all connected by narrow roads and steps that are surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side. After the tour, free time to enjoy this spiritual wonder. Opportunity for a guided trek (approx 1 hour) up to the sungate (Intipunku), which is a part of the Inca Trail, for a magical view of the sanctuary or alternatively an unguided climb to the top of Wayna Picchu, with a magnificent view of the whole Sanctuary (recommended for fit individuals only. Return in the afternoon by train to Cuzco and

Day 6. Cuzco - Lima - Rio de Janeiro (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima and connecting flight to Rio de Janeiro.

Day 7. Rio De Janeiro

Arrival early in the morning at 04.49, reception and transfer to your hotel. Free day.

Day 8. Rio De Janeiro ( B)

After breakfast, a half day visit of the 'marvelous city' including a sightseeing tour to Sugar Loaf Mountain. A two-stage cable car takes you to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain where you will enjoy a splendid view of Rio, Copacabana Beach, and Guanabara Bay. Return to your hotel.

Day 9. Rio De Janeiro (B)

After breakfast, a half day visit to Corcovado, the mountain home to the world famous, Christo de Redentor statue for a magnificent 360° panoramic view of Rio. After, a trip to the Tijuca forest, a luxuriant tropical forest only minutes away from this huge metropolis. The Tijuca Forest is considered the largest urban forest in the world. It has 330 square kms of preserved Mata Atlântica (Tropical Forest), the highest mountaintops of Rio, waterfalls and hidden caves. A rich flora, with a great biodiversity and an incomparable natural beauty. The caves in the Tijuca Forest are formed of limestone and were originally formed by movements of the crust that caused the collapse of stones from the Papagaio Peak and the Archer Mountain. These stones started to form caves with rocky formations.
Another important point is the great variety of bromeliads. The Tijuca Forest is considered to hold the largest concentration of different species of bromeliads in Brazil. Even more than the Amazon Jungle. Return to your hotel.

Day 10. Rio De Janeiro - Iguazu (B)

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Iguazu. Arrival at 12.35, reception and transfer to your hotel, the Continental Inn. Half day excursion to the Argentinean side of the falls. Transfer across the border to get a closer appreciation of these magnificent waterfalls.

Day 11. Iguazu Argentinean side - Buenos Aires (B)

After breakfast, a half day excursion to the fabulous UNESCO World Heritage Iguazu falls, the most voluminous falls in the world and more than three times the width of the Niagara Falls. The falls lie on the three borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Ride on the Great Aventura, zodiac boats which go nearly under the falls themselves. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. Arrival and transfer to your hotel.

Day 12. Buenos Aires (B)

After breakfast, a city tour of perhaps the most cosmopolitan city in South America. Most of the population is of European descent and the city is reminiscent of Paris. It is situated on the Rio de la Plata, and as its name suggests, it is the city of good winds. The tour will include a visit to the Plaza de Mayo, the hub of the city centre and where many public buildings such as the Catedral Metropolitana can be found. At the east end, you will find the Casa Rosada presidential palace with the famous balcony from which Juan and Evita Peron greeted the masses. You shall also visit La Boca, Buenos Aires' most colourful neighbourhood. San Telmo, just a few blocks south of Plaza de Mayo is the artist's quarter, what some believe to be Buenos Aires' most interesting feature.
Return to your hotel.

Day 13. Pampas (B & L)

Today, a full day Fiesta Gaucha Excursion, visiting a typical "estancia" in the pampas. This is a visit to a typical "estancia" or Ranch, in the one of the most fertile and natural prairies of the world, the Argentine. Here you will see the work of the famous Gaucho, the Argentinean cowboy. Return to your hotel.

Day 14. Buenos Aires (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
