“CHASKA”- An Andean Story
Just as in Broadway New
York, Cusco’s new theater is proud to present
a new production, Chaska, or Star in Quechua.
This exciting new production
directed by Kusikay is performed in the
native language of QUECHUA, with on screen
translation in English.
This fictitious story
with typical costumes showing typical dances
of the Andean towns in Peru portrays Inca
and pre-Inca designs including moche warrior
masks.
The story will take you
through to ancient times as you observe
three era’s of Peruvian culture – pre-Inca,
Inca and current life.

Chaska is the story of
a young girl from an Andean town called
Kusillaqta, which for the last year has
been branded with misfortune.
Chaska is selected by
the Mayor to make an offering to the APUS
(Mountain Gods). In her adventure she will
travel across time, learn the real meaning
of the divinities and will became a warrior.
Chaska will understand that her journey
has one mission: To save her town.
Scene 1: Chaska’s
preparation for the party
Chaska is getting ready
for the party. All of the women are dancing
and dressing her, because she is the heiress
of noble blood, even though she does not
know it yet.
Scene 2: The town
in misfortune
The town is waiting for
the arrival of the light from the Chihuaco
bird which signals better years to come.
Their light does not reach the town and
a storm breaks out, which is controlled
by an Arariwa, a mythical Andean storm fighter.
This is the beginning of Chaska’s journey,
who will be guided by an old wise man to
accomplish her mission. The Ukuku joins
in the journey.
Scene 3: Chaska begins
her adventure
The wise man will show
Chaska different moments of Andean history,
so that she can learn from the gods and
in this way discover her mission.
Scene 4: Kon: Creation
and power from the gods
Chaska will witness the
creation of the world by the God Kon. She
will understand the importance of respecting
the creator and the consequences that our
earthly acts may have at any moment. Chaska
will obtain a cloak piece from Kon with
the help of Ukuku.
Scene 5. The Moche:
Payment for the Earth
The Moche produced a
ritual of sacrifice through the myth of
the cup, with which they made a payment
to the earth to calm the fury of the gods.
The real lineage of Chaska will be obvious,
she will find out the reason why she was
chosen and will understand the importance
of the sacrifice.
Scene 6. The Incas
Final Conquest
By the XV century the
Incas had conquered all of the Andes except
from the Chancas. The Incas appealed for
the gods to help them in their struggle
against the Chancas. The Inca Pachacutec
called Viracocha (Sun God) who inspired
Anahuarque Mama to awaken the stones to
become warriors and help conquer the Chancas.
Chasca will identify with Anahuarque Mama
turning into a warrior who will fight and
get the strength to save her town.
Scene 7. The Indians
will rebel against the Christian gods/Taki
Oncoy
Chaska revisists the
first upraising where the Indians object
to the occidental culture imposed with the
Taky Oncoy.
Scene 8. Chaska’s
Sacrifice
Chaska has gone through
all the signals and is ready. She is conscious
and aware of her sacrifice and is ready
to save her town.
Scene 9. The Celebration
of the New Life
The town celebrate Chaska’s
sacrifice, they are free from disgrace.
Chaska has become a divinity.
