Argentina - Patagonia & Iguazu Tour

15 days / 14 nights.
ITINERARY
Day 1. Buenos Aires

Arrival, reception and transfer to your hotel, the 3 star Wilton.

Day 2. Buenos Aires (B)

After breakfast, a city tour of perhaps the most cosmopolitan metropolis in South America. The tour will include a visit to the Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada presidential palace with the famous balcony from which Juan and Evita Peron greeted the masses.

Day 3. Buenos Aires - Estancia (B & L)

Full day Fiesta Gaucha excursion, visiting a typical "estancia" in the pampas. A delicious lunch will be served where you will be able to appreciate the ranching work of the true South American cowboy, the gaucho. Return to your hotel.

Day 4. Buenos Aires - Puerto Madryn (B)

After breakfast, a flight to Trelew. Arrival to Trelew and transfer to your hotel in Peninsula Valdes, the 3 star Bahia Nueva.

Day 5. Valdes Peninsula (B)

Today a full day excursion to the Valdes Peninsula, a site of global significance for the conservation of marine mammals. It is home to an important breeding population of the endangered Southern Right Whale (from June to December)as well as important breeding populations of southern elephant seals, southern sea lions and Magellanic Penguins. The Orcas or killer whales (from September to April) in this area have developed a unique hunting strategy to adapt to local coastal conditions and come very close to beaching themselves whilst hunting for seals. Return to your hotel.

Day 6. Puerto Madryn - Punta Tombo penguin colony (September to March) (B)

A full day excursion to Punta Tombo. Here we shall visit a huge Magellanic Penguin colony. We will see them in their nests and also feeding their offspring. Later, we will visit the Chubut river and the Gaiman and Dolayon towns, both of which are Welsh settlements. Accommodation in Puerto Madryn.

Day 7. Trelew - Ushuaia (B)

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Ushuaia. Arrival and transfer to your hotel, the 3 star Tolkeyen. Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, on the shores of the Beagle Channel and surrounded by the Martial Mounts. It is the capital of the Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and Southern Atlantic Islands Province.

Day 8. Tierra del Fuego (B)

Excursion to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. A subantartic forest covers the region up to 600m above sea level. Trip to the "black" lake. A one way trip on the 'End of the World' train travelling through the National Park itself. Return to your hotel. A half day boat navigation through the Beagle Channel. Return to your hotel.

Day 9. Ushuaia - Escondido and Fagnano Lakes (B)

Full day excursion to both the Escondido and Fagnano Lakes, enjoying the astonishing landscape of the Fuegian Andes. A visit to the 'sawmills' region before return to your hotel.

Day 10. Ushuaia - El Calafate (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to El Calafate. Arrival and transfer to your hotel, the 3 star Koiaiken. El Calafate is the site of the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the most dramatic natural sites left on earth.

Day 11. Perito Moreno Glacier (B)

Full day excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier, the largest advancing glacier in the world. Walk along footpaths and balconies to reach this incredible phenomenon. The tour will also include a one and a half hour trek over the glacier's surface (October to April).

Day 12. Upsala Glacier (B & L)

Full day boat trip to visit the Upsala and Onelli Glaciers. You will be picked up from your hotel and travel for approximately 30 minutes to Puerto Bandera, 50 km to the west of El Calafate, from where the boat will depart. The Upsala Glacier is famous for its rapid retreat and is actually larger than Perito Moreno. Further on you will arrive at Onelli Bay and continue through forests that cover the area up to the lake. The lake is covered with blue icebergs, each with different hues of blue indicating their different ages. Boxed lunch included before returning to El Calafate.

Day 13. El Calafate - Buenos Aires - Iguazu (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Buenos Aires and connecting flight to Puerto Iguazu. Transfer to your hotel, the 3 star St George. A visit to the fabulous UNESCO World Heritage Iguazu falls, the most voluminous falls in the world and more than three times the width of the Niagara Falls. The Argentinean side of Iguazú allows for a close appreciation. Set in a subtropical rain forest reserve of over 180,000 hectares, Iguazú is home to jaguar, puma, caiman and over 400 species of bird. This tour includes 'The Great Adventure', an exhilarating boat ride on the Iguazu River, heading towards the falls themselves. Return to your hotel.

Day 14. Iguazu Falls - Brazilian side (B)

Cross the border into Brazil for a half day excursion to appreciate a wider view of the falls. Return to your hotel in Argentina. (Please note that all US citizens require a Brazilian visa for this excursion).

Day 15. Puerto Iguazu - Buenos Aires (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Buenos Aires and your connecting flight home.
