Argentina - Fitz Roy Trek

Los Glaciares National Park, at the Southern edge of Patagonia is much more than the "rivers of ice" that give name to the territory. In the park's northern area, the overwhelming masses of the Fitz Roy cluster rise between the continental ice-field and the vast Patagonian steppes. Paths amidst the valleys and trails into woodlands allow you to enjoy this unique mountain scenery at close range and the best time to enjoy this trek is from October to March.

DAY 1. El Calafate
Reception at Río El Calafate by the shores of Argentino Lake. Dinner and overnight accommodations at the hotel.

DAY 2. Perito Moreno Glacier- El Chalten
Early morning visit to the Southern area of Los Glaciares National Park to admire the spectacular Perito Moreno glacier, trekking its ice surface aided with crampons. Picnic and return to El Calafate. Drive through the endless Patagonian steppes, habitat of guanacos, armadillos and Darwin's rhea before arriving to the tiny village of El Chaltén, at the foot of the Fitz Roy massif. Overnight in a lodge.

DAY 3. Trekking to the food of Fitz Roy
Today we will enjoy a walk through hills, beech forests and mountain creeks across the Blanco River and mountain ponds and lakes. Arrival to Laguna de los Tres at the base of the awesome Mount Fitz Roy (11000ft) Return to your lodge.

DAY 4. Trekking to Torre Lake
After breakfast, trekking along the Fitz Roy river valley, across fabulous sceneries and up to Laguna del Torre, where icebergs fallen from the hanging glacier at Cerro Torre (10,000ft) float. This peak, capped with an ice shaped like a mushroom, is one of the toughest climbs in the world. Return to Fitz Roy Inn, for accommodation.

DAY 5. Trek at Huemul Glacier
Drive up to Lago del Desierto, before a simple trek to Huemul Glacier. Drive back to El Calafate in the afternoon, and overnight hotel accommodation.

DAY 6. El Calafate
Transfer to El Calafate airport for your return flight.
